Week 4: Spiritual Gifts: What Has God Given You?
Read Romans 12:3-11 & 1 Corinthians 12:4-11, and discuss:
What do you notice about Paul's description of Spiritual gifts?
Are there any gifts here that you don't understand?
What does Paul say that Spiritual gifts are for?
Spiritual Gifts are abilities enabled by the power of the Holy Spirit.
Discuss:
How helpful you think it is to distinguish between Spiritual gifts and other attributes and abilities that come from our Heart, Abilities, Personality and Experiences?
Consider this list of Spiritual gifts (taken from the lists found in Rom 12:3-11; 1 Cor 12:4-11, 28; & Eph 4:11).
Underline abilities you think you have (you might like to refer back to your gifts test results - but don't feel limited!)
Circle any you think you've received (in whole or in part) by the power of the Holy Spirit.
Administration | Giving | Miracles |
Apostleship | Healing | Pastor / Shepherd |
Craftsmanship | Helping | Prophecy |
Discernment | Hospitality | Service |
Encouragement / Exhortation | Intercession | Teaching |
Evangelism | Leadership | Speaking in Tongues |
Faith | Mercy | Interpreting Tongues |
Word of Knowledge | Word of Wisdom |
Other gifts you have received from the Spirit: ____________
Read 1 Timothy 4:12-14 & 2 Timothy 1:6-7, and discuss:
What did you notice as you 'listened in' to Paul instructing Timothy about his Spiritual gifts?
Spend some time in quiet reflection, considering the following questions:
Do you think you need to hear something similar about your own Spiritual gifts? Consider:
Are there any gifts that you are neglecting?
Are there any gifts you need to fan into flame?
Share with the person next to you and pray for one another that God would provide what you need to use and grow in your gifts.
Read 1 Corinthians 12:27-13:13, and discuss:
How is love the 'most excellent way' to use and grow our Spiritual gifts?
Therefore, how do you think we should use your Spiritual gifts?
What pitfalls or problems could we create by misusing our gifts?
What fruit should we expect to see from using our gifts correctly?
Pray for one another, that God's Spirit would give us gifts and help us to use them lovingly, for the sake of His purposes and for His glory.
Series Conclusion: What is your SHAPE?
Spend some time in quiet reflection answering these questions:
How has God made you to serve Him?
What are you currently doing that best makes use of the SHAPE God has given you?
What are you currently doing that doesn't seem like such a good fit?
What would you like to explore doing more in the future?
Discuss together:
How can we work together as a group to support and equip one another to follow God's leading and utilise the things He has given us?
What do you think we could do as a church to grow in our serving together with these things?
Close your time together in prayer about these things.
