Outreach

Focus 2 - Outreach:

We want to look beyond ourselves and connect with others locally and globally through fostering meaningful relationships in order to grow together in faith and service.

Read the verses below:

  • Matthew 28:19 – “Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.”

  • Matthew 5:16 – “Let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.”

  • John 13:35 – “By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.”

  • James 1:27 – “Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress.”

  • 1 Peter 3:15 – “Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have.”

  • 2 Corinthians 5:20 – “We are therefore Christ’s ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us.”

  • 1 John 3:18 – “Dear children, let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth.”

  • Matthew 25:35 – “For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink.”

  • Luke 14:13-14 – “But when you give a banquet, invite the poor, the crippled, the lame, the blind.”

  • Romans 15:2 – “Each of us should please our neighbours for their good, to build them up.”

Questions:

  1. If you had to sum up these verses what would you say?

  2. When you think of outreach what concepts and ideas come to mind?

  3. One thing that stands out is meeting people where they are at, where their needs need to be met, what examples do you know of or are involved in where a needs-based outreach works?

  4. The word ‘evangelism’ sometimes can have negative connections, are evangelism and outreach the same or different? How?

  5. I (Grant) have a saying “Do the things you love with those who don’t love Jesus” When we do this we begin with an already established connection point and we break out of our safe holy huddles.

    1. What activities/groups do you participate in with non-believers?

  6. How can we at Mayfield Baptist look outside of ourselves, how can we make meaningful connections with those who don’t know Jesus? How can you do the same?
